Can a survey predict borehole depth and yield before drilling?
Yes. A WaterLocation survey report gives the drilling point coordinates, the depth of the water-bearing fracture and the forecast yield in m³ per day before a rig arrives; the pumping test then compares the real yield with the forecast. In Saudi Arabia the first artesian water came at 43 m, as forecast, and the main source at 150 m gives 1,000 m³ a day.
What the report contains
- Coordinates of the drilling point.
- Depth to the water-bearing zone.
- Forecast yield, m³ per day, compared with your demand.
- Drilling specification: rig type, diameter, casing plan for saline layers.
Forecast against result
| Site | Before | Result | Yield |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saudi Arabia, desert | Negative geological forecasts | Artesian water at 43 m as forecast; main source 150 m | 1,000 m³/day |
| Ulrichstein, Germany | Demand 260 m³/day | Well ≈200 m | 300+ m³/day |
| Altmannstein, Germany | Required 10 l/s | Water at 88 m | 10 l/s (864 m³/day) |
Questions
How long does the survey take?
Usually 2–3 days on site, then lab analysis and the report.
What if the yield is lower than forecast?
The pumping test measures it; payment terms tied to the result are set in the survey agreement.
